Asanda Benya

Senior Lecturer, University of Cape Town

Asanda Benya is a lecturer in the Sociology Department at University of Cape Town. She completed her PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in 2016. Her thesis was on the construction of gendered identities of women who work underground in the mines. Prior to that she worked as a researcher at the South African Department of Labour’s Head Office, in their Research, Policy and Planning directorate. She also worked as a senior tutor and an intern at the Society, Work and Development Institute (SWOP).
